Historic Milestone for Internationally Educated Physical Therapists at the 2024 APTA House of Delegate

FUTURE Foundation Global (FFG) proudly celebrates a landmark achievement for the Internationally Educated Physical Therapist (IEPT) community during the 2024 APTA House of Delegates (HOD). Two pivotal motions supporting the IEPT community were successfully adopted:

  • RC 2-24: Equitable and Inclusive Process of Licensure by Endorsement for an Internationally Educated Physical Therapist

  • RC 3-24: Preferred Nomenclature for an Internationally Educated Physical Therapist

This historic moment reflects the unwavering dedication of the IEPT community and the collaborative efforts within the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) to foster a more inclusive profession. Special recognition goes to New Jersey Chief Delegate Dr. Ben Aguila, PT, DPT, and the NJ Delegation for their relentless advocacy and groundwork that led to both motions being placed on the consent calendar—signifying broad support and minimal opposition.

Dr. Ben Aguila and Dr. Consie Cauilan-Aguila, PT, DPT, founders, past Presidents, and current trustees of FFG, have been instrumental in championing the rights and recognition of the IEPT community. Dr. Consie Aguila expressed heartfelt gratitude, stating, “This milestone is a result of collective action and solidarity. To the IEPT community, our work is just beginning. Now is the time to use these victories to drive advocacy efforts at the state level. No one can do this alone—our strength lies in unity.”

These wins pave the way for greater equity and recognition of IEPTs in the physical therapy profession. FFG encourages all members of the IEPT community to build on this momentum and actively engage in advocacy efforts to drive meaningful change.

Congratulations to the IEPT community and all who supported this important step forward!
