On June 3, 2024, the APTA Academy of Leadership and Innovation Multicultural PT Catalyst Group (MCPT), led by Drs. Ben and Consie Aguila, successfully organized a Virtual Town Hall Meeting to engage and mobilize the Internationally Educated Physical Therapists (IEPT) community. This important event was held in preparation for the presentation of two pivotal motions at the APTA House of Delegates (HOD):
RC 2-24: Equitable and Inclusive Process of Licensure by Endorsement for Internationally Educated Physical Therapists
RC 3-24: Preferred Nomenclature for Internationally Educated Physical Therapists
Key Highlights:
The townhall provided an open platform for APTA members and non-members to discuss the significance of these motions in promoting equity and inclusion for IEPTs in the U.S. healthcare system.
Participants gained insights into how these proposals aimed to remove structural barriers and create a more inclusive licensure process for internationally educated PTs.
The session also fostered meaningful dialogue on how to unify and strengthen advocacy efforts to ensure the successful passage of these motions.
Dr. Ben Aguila and Dr. Consie Aguila emphasized the importance of collective action, stating, “This town hall reflects our ongoing commitment to advocating for IEPTs. It’s through open dialogue and unified voices that we can drive impactful change.
The successful execution of this town hall was a significant step toward the adoption of these motions, further solidifying the MCPT Group's leadership in advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion within the physical therapy profession.
FFG applauds Drs. Ben and Consie Aguila for their unwavering dedication to elevating the IEPT community and fostering positive change in healthcare advocacy
